So, to the left, there's a GIF from me with the simplest animation you'll ever see. Pretty basic really, a magical girl, the only thing animated is the blush. The animation was done using GIMP believe it or not, which took a while. I dropped it in just to show what even someone as unskilled as me can do.
And to the right, there's one by the legendary tenshi-no-hikari. It's Jack Frost's transformation, by the way, in case anyone doesn't know that know that.
As a transition to photo-based work, here's one that will amuse some. It's a bit of a collaborative work, not originally done as an animation. Someone cut out the leaves, someone else made the gif. Here's the original place I found it, by the way. Mathew, sweetest, you can figure this one out without the link.
And then there's those strange little cubes on the right. Take a second to think about what they might be made of before you read the next line.
They are paper. It's a stop-motion animation.
And you can totally see the squinchy-faces they're making as they do the happy dance. Gheeheehee.
